The HelmCore Operational Readiness Assessment is a structured 60-minute review of how operational signals reach your team across POS, network, IoT and energy. You get a scored report within five working days.
Most multi-site retail teams monitor their estate well at component level. The harder question is how quickly a change in one system becomes an understood incident with a known cause and a known scope. This assessment measures that, site by site and system by system, and shows you where the time goes.
Your tools tell you when something changes. A latency spike, a device dropping off, a terminal responding more slowly than it did an hour ago. What takes longer is establishing that those three events are one incident, working out which sites it touches and identifying what is causing it.
That interval is the Detection Gap. It starts at the first meaningful operational deviation and ends when your team has enough context to prioritise and act. It sits inside mean time to resolve, and on most estates it is the largest part of it.
Frontline colleagues raise the symptom before central monitoring shows the pattern across sites.
Establishing whether it is POS, network, IoT or energy means cross-referencing systems that do not talk to each other.
Each supplier brings its own view, and none of them describes the estate as a whole.
The assessment puts a number on each of these for your estate.
The session works through five areas. Each is scored, and each score comes with the reasoning behind it.
Each area is scored on a five-point scale, with the strongest and weakest points called out individually.
From the booking form to the report in your inbox is usually under two weeks.
The report runs to around twelve pages and is written to be read by people outside IT as well as inside it.
The report is structured so it can go to Finance without translation. It sets out where operational exposure sits in the estate and what would need to change to reduce it, in terms a budget holder can evaluate.
The assessment is designed around how distributed retail estates operate. It fits best where the following are true.
Where a retailer's IT or POS function is outsourced, we run the assessment with the provider alongside the retailer.
The assessment is built around physical store estates and the systems inside them.
The assessment runs on what you tell us during the session. There is no installation, no integration and no access to your systems or credentials at any point. Anything you share stays inside the assessment and is covered by our confidentiality terms.
The Retail Detection Gap sets out why the interval between an operational deviation and an understood incident matters in a distributed estate, and what a recent HelmCore pilot across 346 stores showed. The assessment applies the same framework to your own estate.
